# Platform Limits

File, document, browser, and API limits to design your automations around.

This page lists the limits that apply when your automations work with files, documents, browser sessions, and the API. Use it to design automations that stay inside what the platform supports.

Each figure is one of two types:

* **Hard limit**: the platform enforces it. Going past it fails the request or leaves data out.
* **Recommended maximum**: nothing stops you from going past it, but behavior beyond it is untested. Design to stay below it.

## Files and Documents

IDP reads only the first 100 pages of a document and skips the rest without an exception. If several documents together exceed 100 pages, the action fails instead. **Read content from documents** reads the first 50 pages of each document by default.

The Excel size limits apply to version 1.5.0 and later of the Excel integration.

## Browser

These limits apply to the [Browser](/guides/platform/integrations/browser.md) integration.

| Idle time before a session closes          | 30 minutes without a browser action                       | None                                         |
| Files returned by **Get downloaded files** | 10 MB per file, 20 MB in total                            | None                                         |
| Size of a table read from a page           | The read must finish within 15 seconds, about 1,000 cells | About 700 cells (rows multiplied by columns) |

Files over the download limit are left out of the result without an exception, and the action still succeeds. If your automation depends on a download, check that the file is in the result.

Watching a session through its live view does not count as activity. A session that is only being watched still closes after 30 minutes.

## API

| Duration of a REST API request | 15 seconds for most requests | None                |

A request that runs longer than its limit fails with HTTP `504`.
